Volunteering at the Denver Rescue Mission (DRM) is one of our favorite activities to do together as a team. Since I’m relatively new to the Atlas team, February’s dinner serving event was the first time I participated.
Whenever I volunteer, I always leave with a deeper sense of appreciation for organizations like the Denver Rescue Mission, for the opportunity to connect with members of my community I wouldn’t usually connect with, and for the gift of life in general. Volunteering with my Atlas colleagues at DRM was no exception. But this time I also felt a deep sense of appreciation for the team I get to work with every day.
To serve our community together is an uplifting and unifying experience, or at least it was for me. Whether it was chopping oranges with Alex, listening to Mutter try to convince people why the purple cabbage he was serving had nothing wrong with it, watching Vos fill up the water glasses as diligently as he fills out Salesforce every day, seeing Jenn and Andy pass out utensils and organize the line, or along with Sarah, convincing people to eat their vegetables, it really was a fun and meaningful night.
I got to get to know my coworkers on a deeper level, and on top of that, together we served over 700 meals to hungry homeless people that night. I always feel grateful to be a part of a team like Atlas, but giving back to the those in need through the DRM made me feel particularly proud.
